The day
Guangzhou’s skyline earns its nickname — the Pearl — after dark, so this day is engineered backwards from the light. Afternoons cover the green heart of the city: Yuexiu Park’s Five Rams statue, the octagonal Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and the 600-year-old Zhenhai Tower on the old city wall.
Then up the Canton Tower — 488 metres, the highest deck in the city, timed for sunset so you watch day become neon. Down for an early Cantonese roast dinner, and onto a Pearl River cruise gliding beneath the glowing bridges as the tower cycles through its colours behind you.
